Glimpses of a visit to family
Over the weekend i went on a little day trip to hang out with family. There's a shorter-and-congested route and a longer-and-scenic route. Of course i took the latter. The bison herd alone is worth the extra 15-20 minutes. Also: other assorted bovines, horses, goats, and several raptors.
The home we were meeting at is rural but metro-adjacent, on land that was carved out between agricultural areas because it was too wet to farm due to being part of the area's drainage system. So dams were built and ponds made, and trees grow all around. A mama and baby deer came to visit one pond, then later a small herd of bucks. Binoculars got passed around but unless they came down to the pond, they were hard to see for the trees. The largest buck had about nine points, best anyone could count.
One younger nibling showed off their headstand; the other their animal dolls that "give birth" (ew). An older one is really into movie-watching in their spare time, so we swapped recommendations. My parents brought home-made ice cream and chocolate sauce, as always.
By the end i was overstimulated and exhausted. Good to see everyone, though.
