Farm market haul (20260718)
Have missed the market the last few weeks, so was very glad to have the energy to scoot over there today! And i actually remembered that we had a brief-but-heavy rain late yesterday and took the route that would let me avoid the largest puddles (no brain fog = no back-tracking).
The haul: 1.25 lb. red potatoes; 1 lb. green bell peppers; two bunches of carrots (smidge over 1 lb); 1 doz. eggs; and 2 lbs. skyr (from goat milk). Total: $45. The carrots were a ridiculous price, frankly, but only one place had them--and of course i know nothing about what it takes for them to be grown and harvested around here, this time of year. But they're a smidge out of season right now and i suspect that was reflected in the cost.
This is also the first time i got to test the little cooler backpack. It worked perfectly for the yogurt (2 16-oz containers) with a fair bit of room to spare, so i suspect it'll be great for grocery store trips--which are the real reason i got it, as they're all further away than the market. Not that i can ride the scooter to one of them right now, due to construction.
As much as i love going to the market, though, the height of summer is the most difficult time of year to do so. Physically, because the heat's hard on me. Emotionally, because there's so little i can eat of the veggies that are in season. All that bounty that would make me so, so sick. The stacks and bins of squashes, tomatoes, hot peppers, onions, garlic, etc. sure are pretty, though.
